ACCA Receives Federal Funding to Help Local Businesses

Recognizing the difficulties the COVID-19 pandemic has inflicted on small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), the Federal Government Canada recently made funds available through the Department of Western Economic Diversification (WED)

Working with West Yellowhead Community Futures (CFWY), the Alberta Community Co-op Association will help local business explore and develop co-operative business solutions. The combined efforts will work to grow, create, and retain businesses and employment in and around the town of Jasper. Furthermore, the project will help mediate the effects of COVID-19 and will also develop new tools and resources that can be shared with other interested communities.

"The impacts of COVID-19 have, in some cases, been devastating on our region’s small businesses. We look forward to working with ACCA to keep Jasper thriving," says CFWY general manager, Nancy Robbins. "We want to thank the Government of Canada, and Minister Joly for their forward-thinking and support as we work together to create strategies that will help local businesses weather the financial storm brought on by COVID-19 and move towards success in a post-pandemic economy.

The Cop-op voice is being heard

Co-operatives are present across most of Canada's economic sectors, making up 3.4 per cent of its GDP and generating almost $86 billion in business activity. Across our nation, co-operatives are community-minded and industry leaders. Co-operatives should be a key player in rebuilding and rethinking Canada's economy — now and following the COVID-19 pandemic. "We are thrilled to be recognized for our innovative work and commitment to rebuilding communities across Alberta", says ACCA manager of co-op services, Seth Leon. "I look forward to connecting with individuals or groups who want to hear more about co-operatives."

Small business owners impacted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic can apply for loans up to $40,000 through the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund (RRRF).
