The 50-30 Challenge - An Update
The 50 - 30 Challenge is an initiative co-created by the Government of Canada, civil society, and the private sector that aims to attain gender parity and significant representation (at least 30%) of equity-deserving groups on boards and senior management positions (aka leadership and decision-making roles). Organizations that embrace and practice justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion can build greater trust and engagement with their employees, members, collaborators, and communities. When trust and engagement are present, creativity and innovation flourish, people can bring their discretionary energy and joy to their work, and businesses experience success in the ways they measure it. This is an endeavour that expands beyond economic success to encompass social, environmental, and cultural well-being.
By joining the challenge, participants will have access to programming, peer-to-peer mentorship, and shared resources such as plans and processes. Both BC Co-operative Association and Alberta Community and Co-operative Association are delivery partners with Women’s Economic Council, and we are focusing on co-creating resources and supports that are relevant to co-operatives. Co-operatives have a solid foundation to work from with internationally shared co-operative values and principles. We look forward to enacting them together through the lens of justice, equity, diversity, decolonization and accessibility.
